Private Day Care
Private day care allowance and special municipal supplements allow families the opportunity to arrange full time care for children under school age. Day care services can be provided by a private childminder or day care centre or an individual hired by the family to take care of the child in its own home (in this case the family is the employer). Private day care allowance is claimed from KELA (The Social Insurance Institution of Finland).
In addition to the private day care allowance, all the municipalities in the Lahti region (Lahti, Asikkala, Hollola, Nastola ja Orimattila) grant a special municipal supplement. The supplement is about 100-235 EUR/month depending on the municipality and the selected form of day care. There is no need to apply separately for a municipal supplement - it is granted automatically by KELA, provided that the family is eligible for private day care allowance.
