Comprehensive Schools

LAHTI

Lahti has 24 lower levels and 10 upper levels of the comprehensive school. There are 7 special schools. The comprehensive school, divided into a lower (Years 1 - 6) and upper level (Years 7 - 9), covers compulsory education for all children aged 7 - 16. There are also two corresponding private schools in Lahti, the Lahden Yhteiskoulu and the Rudolf Steiner School.

Already at the lower level it is possible to select e.g. a school specialised e.g. in music or art. Specialized music classes for Years 3 - 6 are offered at Lotila school, and for Years 7 - 9 in the neighbouring Tiirismaa school. Salpausselkä school offers specialized sports classes. There are five choices for the first foreign language option (language A): English (all schools), German (7 schools), Swedish (Lotila), French (Länsiharju) and Russian (Vuorikatu).

At Tiirismaa school there are classes in which tuition is in English only. These classes are offered from pre-school to upper comprehensive level. Twenty six pupils are admitted to the pre-school program each year. Comprehensive school classes hold 15 - 31 pupils depending on the class. ASIKKALA

There are 9 lower levels of the comprehensive school in Asikkala: three are located in the municipal centre of Vääksy, and the others are distributed through the various villages. The upper lever is located in Vääksy.

HOLLOLA

There are 11 lower levels and one upper level of the comprehensive school in Hollola. Options for the first foreign language (Language A) at Kalliola and Paimela Schools are English, German and Swedish. At all other lower level schools, English is studied as the first foreign language. The Salpakangas lower level offers specialised music classes.

NASTOLA

There are 10 lower levels of the comprehensive school in Nastola, each covering Years 1 - 6. The first foreign language in all schools is English. Nastola has two upper level schools, one in Kirkonkylä and one in Uusikylä.

ORIMATTILA

Orimattila has 13 lower levels of the comprehensive schools. All schools cover Years 1-6, except Mallusjoki, which covers Years 1 - 3 only; pupils transfer to the nearby Karkkula school for Years 4 - 6. There are two upper level schools in the centre of Orimattila. One of them covers Years 1 -9, as well as special classes, and the other is situated next door to the upper secondary school Erkko-lukio.
